The JCC Maccabi Games create an experience that you will remember for a lifetime.
Our teens, coaches, and families form meaningful relationships that transcend the week of JCC Maccabi and the boundaries of geography. JCC Maccabi teens have gone on to compete in the World Maccabiah Games®, the Pan American Maccabi Games®, professional sports, and even the Olympics. The community of alumni includes familiar names like Olympic swimmers Lenny Krayzelburg and Jason Lezak, Survivor’s Ethan Zohn, actor Jason Segal, and American Idol’s Brett Lowenstern!

This curriculum is designed for early childhood (ages 4-5) and focuses on intruding bongos, rhythm, coordination, and group music-making in a fun and engaging way. Each week builds on the previous lessons to develop fundamental skills while encouraging creativity.
This dynamic program offers an engaging introduction to a wide variety of sports, including soccer, gymnastics, dance, yoga, basketball, football and baseball. Each session is carefully crafted to help children refine motor skills, build confidence, and ignite a lifelong passion for physical activity. Through fun drills, games and age appropriate challenges, kids will have the opportunity to explore different sports disciplines, learning the basics of each in a supportive and inclusive environment. In addition, children will learn sportsmanship, teamwork and social skills as they work together to support one another.
These small group swim lessons are great for children (ages 3-5) who already have a foundation in swimming and want to gain confidence and a more advanced skillset in the water. These group lessons are structured the same as private lessons, with the children benefiting from observing and learning alongside their peers. Games and free swim time are incorporated into each lesson. Group swim lessons are capped at 4 per class.
Please note that if it is colder than 60 degrees Fahrenheit, we will be doing dry land lessons with your child during their swim lesson time.
This open-ended curriculum is designed to explore the history, functions and group dynamics of various instruments. We will focus on hands-on activities, creativity, and group collaboration while introducing students to keyboards, electric guitars, bass, bells, percussion, and other group- oriented instruments.
Is your little one almost ready for school, but you’re not quite ready to let go just yet? This class will give you the best of both worlds! This class is structured like a preschool class. During the first few weeks of class, parent/caregiver and child attend together. Next, parents stay on the sidelines. Finally, the children attend themselves.
In this class, the children will become treasure hunters! Whether discovering crystals or uncovering dinosaur fossils, the children will have the thrill of collecting surprising treasures found in nature. They will also get to create their treasure box to store their loot!
In this class, the children will find their calm with yoga and explorations in our garden. They will learn all about nature’s ways as they plant and tend to the garden and explore all the other parts of the outdoor classroom.
Karen Duncan has been a part of the JCC’s Early Childhood Learning Center since 1992. She started as a classroom teacher before moving into a supervisory position. In 2007, she helped renovate and rejuvenate the former parenting center, turning it into Shayna’s Village.
As director of the Village, she is committed to helping parents and their children move through all of the phases of early childhood with dignity and respect, using best practices as the guide.
She finds joy in teaching and creating classes, but one of the best parts of her job is watching lifelong friendships develop in Shayna’s Village classes. Children and parents who meet in Shayna’s Village tend to remain friends for years and then eventually return as new parents and grandparents, keeping the cycle of friendships going. She feels honored to be a witness to those deep-rooted connections.
Karen Duncan was awarded the Harriet Weiss Legacy Award in 2021.
In this class, the children will learn kitchen basics and to follow a recipe. They will learn about “sometimes” vs. “anytime” food while they create nutritious foods and delicious treats.
Each week in this class, the children will get to experience a different area in the Village. They will enjoy the following activities: art, cooking, science, music, gardening, literature, and drama.
Enjoy a 30-minute interactive concert that includes lots of music, movement, and instruments! Please register in advance.
Enjoy complimentary challah with your child, while socializing with other families! Please register in advance.
Come snuggle and read stories together in this open library time. Enjoy guest storytellers. Please register in advance.
The children will unleash their creativity as they participate in creative activities of all kinds: visual art, dramatic play, and music.
The children will gain independence and confidence in this class as they begin to follow a school routine that is filled with learning activities, gross motor activities, and snack!
